Sherry Hockett’s art is deeply spiritual, reflecting her thoughts and visions to inspire and uplift others. Her work, such as the piece Hat Woman (now sold), channels her own experiences and her desire to encourage those who encounter it.
Hat Woman was inspired by a prayerful practice Sherry learned from a friend. Her friend, while weeding her garden, would pray for each of her daughters to find a Godly partner. Each weed pulled symbolized a prayer, accompanied by a spoken request. Inspired by this, Sherry adopted this practice in her own life, saying, "For every blade of grass, let it represent a prayer and a thank you," as she mowed her lawn, reflecting on all she was grateful for. She even brought this method into her work life, saying, “For every customer I see, let it represent a prayer for myself—that I may serve them in a way pleasing to the Lord—and a prayer for the customer, asking the Lord to bless them and meet their needs.” This practice has become a guiding inspiration in her daily life.
Sherry's visual alphabet, incorporated into her artwork, carries specific prayers and affirmations, offering layers of meaning. In Hat Woman:
Each element of Sherry's art carries a prayerful intention, reminding viewers of the power of gratitude, faith, and daily communion with God. Hat Woman is not just a piece of art; it’s a practice of faith and an invitation to experience the profound blessings of a prayerful life.
